"Iran opposes Ukraine war"
Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi says the country’s definitive position is to oppose the war in Ukraine. He says Tehran is ready to use all its capacities, including in the field of diplomacy, to end the war. Raeisi made the remarks in a phone call with Polish President Andrzej Duda. He rejected biased and undocumented claims by the West and the US regarding Iran’s position on the Ukraine war. Raisi said such claims stem from partial policies of Western governments, especially the US, toward Iran. He noted that Iran has historical and all-out relations with both Russia and Ukraine. Duda, for his part, said Iran has always sought to promote and bolster global peace and stability. He also called for further expansion of the two countries’ relations in bilateral and international areas.
Palestinian killed
Israel’s bloody violence shows no sign of abating. The Regime forces have killed another Palestinian in the West Bank. Media have cited an Israeli statement that says a Palestinian man was fatally shot at the entrance of a settlement in east of al-Quds. The statement claims the man was carrying a gun and tried to attack the Israeli guards stationed near a checkpoint. A guard is said to be slightly injured during the incident. Israel has intensified its deadly crackdown against Palestinians in the occupied territories. More than 120 people have been killed in Israeli attacks this year so far.
UK government in turmoil
British Prime Minister Liz Truss has faced tough grilling in parliament over her controversial tax-cuts plan she was forced to abandon. Opposition Labour party leader Keir Starmer mocked Truss over her u-turn. Starmer was taking aim at the premier during a Question Time session held less than two days after the new finance minister said he will reverse almost all tax measures announced by his predecessor. Another Labour MP, Sarah Owen called on Truss to step down, saying it’s better for her to quit and call a general election. Truss, however, brushed aside those calls. She boasted her resolve to keep fighting despite growing voices questioning her ability to rule the country.
