Hungary's far-right PM hailed hero at CPAC summit in Texas
Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been hailed as a hero and defender of rightwing values at a Conservatives’ conference in the United States.
The extremists at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, Texas, on Friday gave a standing ovation as Orban, who was the opening speaker at the function, cursed the transatlantic rightwing movement’s liberal foes.
"We must take back the institutions in Washington and in Brussels," he said.
“The globalists can all go to hell,” Orban told the whooping and roaring crowd at the gathering. “I have come to Texas!”
Orban criticized the West for self-defeating strategies that must change.
After defeating Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, "now the West is at war with itself," Orban said. "We have seen what kind of future the globalist ruling class has to offer. But we have a different future in mind.”
Orban then went on to outline his political achievements, ranging from tightening restrictions on illegal immigration, law and order and “gender ideology” in schools.
The Conservative prime minister touted an increased rate of marriages and decreased number of abortions, and mentioned advocating blood-and-soil nationalism and targeting “leftist media” as his other achievements.
In an unusual diplomatic decision, Orban sided with the opposition Republicans, rather than the incumbent Democrats, paying homage to former president Donald Trump at his golf club in Bedminister, New Jersey, while snubbing Joe Biden at the White House.
Orban, who has been in power for 12 years, has been censured by his critics for pursuing anti-democratic values, reducing the independence of Hungary's press, as well as corruption, cronyism and nepotism.
Four years ago in an unprecedented move, the European Parliament voted to sanction Hungary for flouting EU rules and regulations regarding democracy, civil rights and corruption.
