A recent poll has shown that US states where Trump loyalists are dominant would prefer to be separated from the rest of the country.

Republican-led states, that voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 US presidential election, said they believed they would be “better off” if their states seceded from the US, according to the new poll cited by RT on Friday.

The Yahoo/YouGov survey indicated that about 33 percent of Trump voters in GOP-led states said they would personally fare better if their state “became an independent country”.

Some 38 percent said they were either unsure or see themselves faring “about the same” in a newly independent state.

Only 29 percent in the survey believed they would be “worse off” after secession.

The latest poll found that about 92 percent of GOP-led state Trump voters trust the government of their states more than they trusted the federal government to do “what’s best”.

Only 15 percent of the respondents in the survey believe the US is “generally headed in the right direction,” compared with 72 percent who say it is “off on the wrong track,” the poll showed.

Only 27 percent believed Biden was up to the challenges facing the US government, while 56 percent said the president was incompetent.

Most Americans have lost hope in the future, with 46 percent saying the next generation will be “worse off” and only 25 percent saying it will be “better off.” Similarly, 37 percent of voters believed America’s best days were “behind us" and just 31 percent said the best was “still to come”.

Most respondents said neither Trump nor Biden should seek re-election in 2024.

The survey was conducted on 1,672 American adults from July 8, 2022, to July 11, 2022. The margin of error was estimated to be 2.6 percent.

Meanwhile, US inflation has reached a 40-year record high of about 9 percent with fuel and food costs constantly surging, creating a nonstop headache for White House officials which have tried to put the blame on the Federal Reserve.
