Ivana Trump, former US President Donald Trump's first wife who passed away on Thursday, died due to an accident after suffering blunt force trauma injuries to her torso, according to New York City’s chief medical examiner.

It made the announcement in a news release on Friday afternoon, and refused to comment any further comment on the death of 73-year-old Trump.

"The Medical Examiner has determined her cause of death was an accident caused by blunt impact injuries to her torso. Having released this determination, OCME will not comment further on the investigation," OCME said in a statement.

A police spokesperson said on Thursday that a skier-turned-businesswoman Ivana Trump had been found dead on the stairs inside her apartment and that foul play was not suspected.

According to a statement, police received a 911 call about an "aided individual" at about 12:40 p.m. ET and found a "73 year-old female unconscious and unresponsive."

The Fire Department of New York said it responded to a report of an individual suffering cardiac arrest at the residence, with the time and place of that response matching the location the NYPD associated with Trump. The fire department said the victim was dead on arrival.

Ivana was the mother of the former president's three oldest children and helped him build some of his signature buildings, including Trump Tower. She was 73 at the time of her death.

The couple married in 1977 and divorced in 1992. They had three children together: Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.

She was credited with giving the megalomaniac president the nickname “The Donald.”

“She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life,” the former president posted on his social media app, Truth Social.

Ivanka Trump tweeted that she was "heartbroken by the passing of (her) mother," adding that "she lived life to the fullest".
