US mass shootings in a nutshell

On May 24th, a gunman opened fire at an elementary school in south Texas and killed 19 children and two adults. The killer was not more than 18 years old and carried out the mass shooting with a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and high-capacity magazines.

The incident marks the 27th school shooting this year and it came just 10 days after a shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York in which 10 people were killed.

But why mass shootings have become so frequent and is it somehow normal for Americans? How many mass shootings happen in a month?
