Solution to regional problems

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has urged Arab states to take unequivocal political action against Israel’s crimes. Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Qatari Emir. The Leader highlighted last year’s Israeli evictions and storming of Palestinian homes in the West Bank neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. He slammed inaction of certain Arab states regarding the issue, saying some European countries supported the Palestinians more than certain Arab countries. The Leader advised those Arab countries not to be afraid of Israel or pin their hopes on the regime. Ayatollah Khamenei said Israel would only corrupt any region it enters, and that it won’t give any concessions to countries. Ayatollah Khamenei told the Qatari Emir that regional issues should be resolved through dialogue by the countries in the region, and without foreign interference. For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani described Israeli crimes in Palestine as unfortunate and called for a united stance against what is happening in the occupied territories.

Israeli settlements

Israel has approved the construction of over four thousand new settler units in the occupied West Bank. The Peace Now anti-settlement group announced the figure. The regime gave the final go-ahead to the construction of over 2,700 units. Some 16-hundred units also received an initial nod. Meantime, the Palestine Liberation Organization condemned the new Israeli approval, urging the Palestinians to step up resistance in the face of Israeli settlement expansion. The PLO called for action to compel the regime to stop expanding illegal settlements. The new Israeli project is the biggest since US President Joe Biden took office. All the Israeli settlements are illegal within the bounds of international law.

Covid-19 in North Korea

North Korea reports its first confirmed Covid-19 death a day after acknowledging the first outbreak of the virus that has been wreaking havoc worldwide since late 2019. According to state media, some 188-thousand people are currently being treated after a fever of unidentified origin spread in the country since late April. It said around 350,000 people have shown signs of that fever so far. The report added, at least six people have died, including the one who had contracted the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has declared a severe state emergency and ordered a national lockdown. North Korea has not vaccinated any of its 25 million people despite offers made by the World Health Organization, China and Russia.
