US is 'accelerator of sanction policies' against Russia: Ukraine's Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says the United States is the “accelerator of the sanction policies” against Russia amid the military conflict in Ukraine.
Zelensky said in an interview with Fox News on Saturday that Washington has so far been "the accelerator of the sanction policies and I think they do more than any other country."
"And this is the way it should be because they are the most powerful country right now," he added.
"I see the same support with respect to sanctions from the United Kingdom,” said the Ukrainian president.
US President Joe Biden has repeatedly threatened Russia with crippling sanctions since President Vladimir Putin declared the military campaign in Ukraine on February 24.
Ever since the Biden administration has sanctioned Russian banks, and individuals with ties to the Kremlin, and Putin himself, among other measures.
Washington also announced a ban on Russian oil imports.
Members of the Biden administration also worked in confluence with western allies and countries like Japan to coordinate sanctions against Moscow.
In addition to imposing sanctions on Russia, the US and its European allies are backing Ukraine with cash and increasingly heavy and sophisticated weaponry.
The Kremlin says that the West is preventing a “quick” end to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine by providing Kiev with weapons.
President Biden, however, signed a new weapons package worth at least $100 million to Ukraine, on Friday.
His administration has sent $3.4 billion worth of armaments to Ukraine since the onset of the military conflict in Ukraine.
