Macron, challenges ahead

The French presidential election has drawn to a close. The incumbent President Emmanuel Macron has been chosen for a second term but protests have erupted in French capital Paris and several other cities instead of celebrations and joy. Why would there be such a reaction and why would the election have one of lowest turnouts in decades.

In this edition, Spotlight interviews Moustafa Traore academic and political commentator from Paris and Ian Williams international affairs analyst from New York to look at how the far-right has narrowed the gap with Macron and whether that would pose challenges for Macron in the upcoming parliamentary elections; and what Macron means when he says he will change his system of governance.
