UK PM, Finance Minister urged to quit over ‘Partygate’ fines

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are fighting for their political lives after it emerged both were among dozens to receive fines from the met for their part in Partygate- the series of gatherings that took place during the height of Covid restrictions in and around the corridors of British power.

Labour leader Keir Starmer led the chorus of voices urging them to go. The chancellor has issued a statement giving his “unreserved apologies” over the matter. The PM attempted an explanation of sort.

Johnson’s critics feel the PM not only failed the British people with his leadership during the peak of covid but continues to do so with these fresh revelations.

The support being shown to the prime minister and the Chancellor would be of cold comfort to those who lost loved ones during Covid and the apologies of both men will ring hollow to those who had to make the ultimate sacrifice and who are now wondering why those who made the rules seemed incapable of following them.
