Miami Open 2022: Alcaraz beats Ruud to become youngest champion

Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest ever Miami Open champion after the 18-year-old Spaniard overcame Norway’s Casper Ruud in straight sets to win his maiden ATP Masters title.

Alcaraz had a shaky start, falling behind 3-love in the opener, but gradually found his rhythm and broke back Ruud twice to take a 6-5 lead, before serving out for the set in the next game.

The 14th seed carried the momentum into the second and raced for a 3-love lead.

Ruud reduced it to 3-2, but it did little to alter the course of the match as Alcaraz kept his nerve to serve out victory at 6-4 and become the third-youngest ATP Masters 1000 champion in series history, behind Michael Chang and Rafael Nadal.
