Iran FM holds talks with Lebanese officials in Beirut

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Beirut on Thursday to hold talks with Lebanese officials.
Amir-Abdollahian expressed his country’s willingness to provide aid to Lebanon in different fields, especially in the economic and commercial sectors.
Amir-Abdollahian met with top Lebanese officials to discuss bilateral ties as well as the latest developments in the region. Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed during his meeting with the Iranian minister that any progress in the Vienna talks and negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia will have positive impacts on the region and the world.
During his talks with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Mikati, Amir-Abdollahian touched upon the significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Lebanon.
As Lebanon is dealing with an economic crisis, some experts believe US bans on any dealing with other Asian states, especially Iran, have exacerbated Lebanon’s problems.
Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah also held a meeting with the Iranian minister where they discussed developments in Lebanon and the region. Amir-Abdollahian also met with Palestinian factions and reiterated Iran’s support for the full liberation of Palestine.
The Iranian foreign minister reiterated the Islamic Republic’s previous calls to build two electricity stations that could substantially resolve Lebanon’s energy crisis. However, Lebanese officials seem reluctant to face US intimidation and work with Iran or even China for that matter to change Lebanon’s dire conditions.
