The United Nations’ WFP has expressed concern about the situation of children in Afghanistan, announcing that acute malnutrition rates are high in 28 out of 34 provinces of the country. The UN body says 3.5 million Afghan children currently need nutrition treatment. The head of Indira Gandhi Children Hospital believes this situation is due to cuts in global aid and mass poverty triggered by US sanctions.

Some Afghan mothers also say they can’t provide their babies with needed nutrition as their entire families are going without food to eat.

The UNHCR says that at the Antalia Diplomacy Forum everyone agreed that in spite of the extreme gravity of the Ukraine situation, other crises including that of Afghanistan must not be forgotten. Afghans are also calling on Western powers not to ignore the crisis they caused in Afghanistan.

Following the Taliban takeover, the US froze some nine billion dollars in Afghan central bank assets and major funding to the country was halted. The developments affected lives across the country.

The situation is still perilous in Afghanistan, where millions of lives depend on foreign aid. Afghan people are calling on world countries not to forget them and to continue their assistance to the country.
