Medical devices are a fundamental part of health care systems. They are essential to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate illnesses and diseases safely and effectively. Over the past two decades, Iran has taken huge strides in the health and medical sector.
In fact, Irans medical device market is growing at a rate thats above the world average. According to the Medical Device Directorate, the country is globally ranked fourth for engineering over a thousand of its medical devices to show for it. This technological capacity has allowed the country to churn out advanced machinery used in the medical sector. Out of the one-thousand medical device manufacturers in the country, nearly 230 of them are knowledge-based firms. These manufacturers generate some 30 percent of revenues in the medical device market. Thats based on statistics from the vice presidency office for Science and Technology of Iran. Going off of figures from the Medical Equipment office at the Ministry of Health, over two thousand different types of medical devices are domestically produced in the country. Over half of the 500-thousand medical devices made globally have Iranian versions.
