Science and technology parks play a key role in complementing the Irans knowledge-based production ecosystem. These are areas where startups and innovative team can operate while making use of the services, facilities, and infrastructure available in the parks.

Most science and technology parks are active in the international arena and serve as export hubs. Therefore, one of their main activities is boosting and supplying domestic products to this end. These establishments are also essential in joining investors with companies and projects.

Over the years the government has placed special attention on knowledge-based companies while implementing new strategies to support tech parks and their businesses. Some of these initiatives aim to remove obstacles along the path of development of these companies.

There are over 7000 knowledge-based companies in Iran who provide services and products to domestic industries, many are active in biotech, computer software, agriculture, food, chemical tech, steel, gas, petrochemicals and so much more. According to government figures, the knowledge-based ecosystem accounts for more than 3 percent of the country's gross domestic product.
