Anti-China Olympics Boycott

The 2022 Winter Olympic Games kicked off in Beijing on February 4th, making the Chinese capital the first city in the world to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympic games. But if you thought the coverage in the news was just about sports, you’d be flat-out wrong.

Before the games even started, they were shrouded in controversy and heated political debate, specifically about China hosting the games. Many have maintained that this is strictly a sporting event, and politics should stay out of it. Others, namely the United States, insist that China’s alleged human rights abuses are simply too grave to ignore. And then there are those, who would argue that the United States is exaggerating these issues for political gain, and being hypocritical. How can the US talk about Uyghur genocide and persecuting Muslims, after bombing half the Middle East and running a torture camp for Muslim men: Guantanamo Bay? Richard Medhurst sits down with Danny Haiphong to discuss the new Cold War against China, and the hypocrisy of the charges leveled against China.
