War Hysteria Over Ukraine

Russia’s foreign minister has dismissed as a propaganda campaign US warnings of an imminent Russian aggression against Ukraine. Sergey Lavrov, in a phone call with his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, also said Washington and Brussels had ignored key Russian security demands. For his part, Blinken warned that a Russian invasion of Ukraine would result in a resolute, massive, and united transatlantic response. He said diplomatic channels remained open to avoid the conflict in Ukraine but would require Moscow to de-escalate. The Ukrainian President says warnings of an imminent Russian attack are stoking panic among his countrymen. Volodymyr Zelensky demanded a firm proof of a Russian invasion plan. The United States says a Russian attack could take place within days, without providing any evidence.


 France Covid Restrictions Protest

In France, thousands of protesters opposed to Covid restrictions head to the capital from all over the country in their vehicles as part of a so-called “freedom convoy”. Police use tear gas to disperse the protesters. Cars carrying protesters managed to get through police checkpoints in central Paris. The motorists are inspired by days-long protests by truckers in Canada. They are angry at covid rules requiring a vaccine pass to enter many public places. Paris has deployed over 7 thousand police forces and water cannon trucks to deal with the situation. This as, hundreds of French citizens have also hit the streets of the city as part of the "yellow vests" protests. The movement, which started in 2018, has seen some of the worst street violence in decades in the country.


Iran Won't Forgo Nuclear Rights

A senior Iranian security official reiterates that the country will never forgo its right to further develop its peaceful nuclear potential.The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council says that the retention and boosting of peaceful nuclear potentialities as well as defense capabilities are options that will never be taken off the table. In his tweet, Ali Shamkhani also says Iran’s regional policies contribute to the establishment of security. He recalled people’s mass turnout in rallies on Friday marking the anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He said the huge participation indicated popular support for the Islamic Establishment. Shamkhani’s comments come as Iran continues talks with the remaining parties to the 2015 deal to revive the accord.
