Aggressors can’t escape consequences of ongoing Yemen war unharmed: Senior Ansarullah official

A senior official from Yemen’s popular Ansarullah resistance movement says Saudi Arabia and its regional allies, which are involved in a devastating military campaign and brutal siege against the war-ravaged country, cannot escape unscathed from the repercussions of their aggressive measures.

“Aggressor countries will not be able to avoid the consequences of waging a war on Yemen. Anyone knows that nearly seven years have passed since the outbreak of Yemen war, and none of the aggressor states has been able to achieve its goals,” Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of Ansarullah's political bureau, told Qatari al-Jazeera television news network on Saturday.

“We only attack military targets. One must compare the number of civilian casualties in Yemen and Saudi Arabia to determine which side is attacking civilian facilities. They bombed markets, wedding halls and mourning ceremonies in Yemen. They are deliberately striking civilians in Yemen, Seven years on, they are still hopeful about a military victory in Yemen,” Bukhaiti added.

He noted that the Riyadh regime and its allies could initially target Yemeni territories from a safe distance, but the fallout of the war can now reach them.

“The continuation of the ongoing war is neither in the interest of Yemen, nor Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Cessation of hostilities is, therefore, is in the best interests of all regional countries,” Bukhaiti pointed out.

He went on to say that Ansarullah has already expressed its willingness for a lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region, which would guarantee national sovereignty and independence of Yemen.

“The ball is in the court of aggressors. We are ready to enter into negotiations with the opposite side in order to establish regional peace … There must be a two-sided path for intra-Yemeni dialogue in order to push for a political process that can help end the unfolding crisis,” Bukhaiti said.

The top Ansarullah official noted, “We emphasize that only military installations are targeted in our retaliatory strikes against the UAE and Saudi Arabia. On the contrary, they use civilian airports and ports for military purposes. They employ merchant vessels to transport military equipment, which is illegal under international law. They do not abide by international regulations.”

“The problem is that neither the UAE nor Saudi Arabia is the main decision-maker. They have actually waged a war against Yemen in favor of the United States, Britain and Israel,” Bukhaiti underscored.

The remarks came as Saudi Arabia conducted fresh airstrikes against residential areas in the Yemeni capital city of Sana’a and its suburbs.

Saudi warplanes hit Airport Street in the heavily populated al-Thawra district early on Saturday, causing material damage, Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported.

Saudi military aircraft also launched an attack on al-Sabaha neighborhood in Bani Matar district, sending many frightened people into the streets.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies, backed by the United States and European powers, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing the popular Ansarullah resistance movement.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.

Despite Saudi Arabia’s incessant bombardment of the impoverished country, the Yemeni armed forces have gradually grown stronger, leaving Riyadh and its allies, most notably the United Arab Emirates, bogged down in the country.
