JCPOA revival talks

Iran says there have been positive developments in the JCPOA revival talks in Vienna, but they do not fulfill Tehran’s expectations. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remark in a telephone conversation with European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrel. He says the 2015 deal hasn’t had any economic benefits for Iran in recent years. Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran is firmly and explicitly seeking a good deal that would guarantee Iran’s economic benefits in a reliable and sustainable manner. Iran and the remaining JCPOA signatories have been engaged in talks in Vienna to revive the accord. In the latest development, Washington has announced the restoration of a sanctions waiver. But Iranian officials say the US should show its goodwill in practice by removing all its anti-Iran sanctions.

Jab or no Jab!

Canadian cities, including the capital Ottawa have become a scene of demonstrations against vaccine mandates, raising fears of clashes with counter-protesters. The so-called Freedom Convoy began as a movement against a vaccine requirement for cross-border truckers. The movement soon morphed into protests against public health measures and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government. Some cities, including the financial hub Toronto, have even faced disruptions with truckers blocking roads and shutting down several areas. Quebec was also rocked by similar protests. The organizers say they expect their numbers to swell into the tens of thousands. Police say the well-organized blockades rely partly on funding from sympathizers in the United States.

Tragic ending

A days-long rescue operation for five-year-old Moroccan boy Ryan who’s been trapped down a well comes to an end. He didn’t make it. Firefighters have been at work for the past five days in a risky earth-moving operation. The pace of drilling slowed down in the final few hours to avoid any vibrations that would send the flimsy structure of the well collapsing. Rescue teams have been providing the boy with food, water, and oxygen through a tube. Rayan was playing near the well on Tuesday before he fell into the 32-meter-deep hole.
