Remembering anti-terror icons

Ceremonies are underway in Iran to mark the second anniversary of the US assassination of the country’s top commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and senior Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. They were assassinated in an American drone strike outside Baghdad Airport on January 3, 2020. People from all walks of life participated in the ceremonies across Iran to mark the occasion. They vent anger at the US for assassinating the anti-terror figures. The participants also called for bringing the perpetrators to justice. Addressing a gathering in the capital Tehran, President Ebrahim Raeisi said former US President Donald Trump who ordered the assassinations must be put on trial.

Emirati vessel seized

The Yemeni army releases footage of an Emirati-flagged vessel which was seized off the country’s western port city of Hudaydah, earlier on Monday. The Army spokesman says the ship, which was carrying military equipment, has been taken to Salif port. Yahya Saree says the vessel was engaged in hostile acts, targeting Yemen’s security and stability. According to Saudi media, the ship was heading to the Saudi port of Jizan in the Red Sea. They claim it was carrying equipment from a shuttered field hospital. The seizure comes amid intensified Saudi attacks on Yemen. On Sunday, five civilians were killed and several others injured in two Saudi airstrikes. Saudi Arabia launched a devastating war on Yemen in 2015. The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and millions more displaced.
