Analyst: Fascism in America is a real possibility

American political analyst and activist Myles Hoenig says Fascism in the United States is a real possibility.

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Saturday in response to the comments of Noam Chomsky who has warned that the United States is moving towards fascism with massive social collapse and class warfare, criticizing the Republican Party for its complicity in the process.

In a recent interview with Democracy Now, Chomsky said the Republican Party is “marching” the world to destruction by ignoring the climate emergency.

“The Republican Party, under Trump, and his minions — he basically owns the party — they have been in the lead of trying to destroy the prospects for organized human life on Earth, not just unilaterally pulling out of the Paris Agreement, but acting with enthusiasm to maximize fossil fuel use, to dismantle the systems that somewhat mitigated their effects, denial of what’s happening, reaching a huge number of loyal almost worshipers, partly through their media system, in other ways,” he added.

“When the United States is the most powerful, important country in world history, when it races to the precipice, has an impact on others. Other things that are happening are bad enough, but with the United States in the lead and marching to destruction, the future is very dim. And it’s our responsibility here to control it, to terminate it, to turn the country back to sanity — don’t even like to say ‘back’ — turn it to sanity on these issues, before it’s too late.”

Hoenig said, “’When Fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and waving a cross.’ This is an anonymous quote yet fully describes the impending fascism that Noam Chomsky sees coming. Although Chomsky lays it mostly at the feet of Trump and the Republican Party, the seeds of fascism has been with us for decades, alongside fascism when it came to Europe. Although likely all Republicans, President Bush’s grandfather and father, Prescott Bush (and others,) had been implicated in a near-fascist coup against President Roosevelt in 1933.”

“There is a difference between fascism and anti-democracy, something both parties promote in different ways. Republicans are pushing voter exclusion laws to prevent mostly blacks and poor people from voting. The Democratic Party is pushing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to counter it. But to be clear, this Act is to promote the Democratic Party, not democracy as it does nothing to push for full enfranchisement of voters who oppose capitalism through parties like the Green or Socialist Parties,” he added.

“What happened a year ago this week was the Ft. Sumter of the next US Civil War. Trump and his minions attempted a coup d’etat by trying to prevent the legal transfer of power from one capitalist president to the next. Like Hitler and his SA (Sturmabteilung), Trump has used throughout his administration, and continues to use, right wing, white nationalist extremist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, to promote the advent of fascism in America,” the analyst noted.

“Like in the 30s and 40s, and well after, fascism appeals to the fears of people against those who are not their enemy. In Germany, the targets were Jews and other minorities, blaming them for economic hardships and for losing WW1. Today, the targets are immigrants, Jews still- especially regarding their ‘replacement theory’, and the media. That is ironic as the media is fully behind the lack of democracy in America, by promoting only the two parties and denigrating, or worse, ignoring, other people with opposing views, e.g. Bernie Sanders, Green Party, etc. Further irony is that those who participated in the January 6 insurrection were mostly middle class and higher, not the lumpenproletariat, those without class conscience and most likely to support a fascist regime,” he stated.

“Chomsky’s fears of fascism is based on reality. The upcoming 2022 elections will likely cement the likelihood of the end of democracy (as it is) in America, if the Republicans take either or both chambers of Congress,” he said.
