Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has condemned the killing of a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, saying the “appalling” act reflects Israel’s “doctrine of murder.”

Israeli soldiers on Sunday night fatally shot a Palestinian youth in the head during a raid by the regime’s forces at Nablus' Old City in Ras al-Ain area. Jamil Kayyal, 31, lost his life when a skirmish erupted after the forces purportedly hunted down a “wanted” local activist.

Two other Palestinians were also injured when they were run over by an Israeli army vehicle.

“The crime of executing the young man, Kayyal, in Nablus is appalling and reflects the doctrine of murder that articulates the ideology and behavior of the leaders of the military establishment of the (Israeli) occupying” entity, said the Palestinian premier in a statement on Monday.

Shtayyeh also called on international human rights organizations to condemn the killing, “which is one more of many crimes of the occupation against our people”, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency reported.

Palestine’s Foreign Ministry, for its part, denounced the “crime” in a separate statement, saying that it was “one episode in the series of field executions carried out by the occupying forces in accordance with the instructions and directives of the political and military levels in the occupation” entity.

The statement further said that the Tel Aviv regime allowed and facilitated “the shooting by soldiers and other members” of the regime “and treat him as a practice target that can allow killing him without conscience, morals or law.”

The ministry held Tel Aviv fully responsible for the crime and stressed that these crimes “reflect the racist culture of the occupation that dominates the decision-making centers of” Israel.

It also called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to speed up its war crime probe of the occupying regime in a bid to force it to immediately halt its crimes and begin investigating the violation of its forces and colonial settlers.

According to Wafa, Nablus on Monday observed a general strike over the killing of Kayyal, who was later buried in a mass funeral in his hometown.

Israeli troops also recently killed another young Palestinian and injured as many as 68 others, attacking the southern part of Nablus.

The Israeli regime occupied the West Bank in 1967 before starting to dot the Palestinian territory with illegal settlements and severely restricting the Palestinians' freedom of movement there.
