Democrats have decades-long subservience to Wall Street, military-industrial-complex: Analyst

The only way the Democrats can win the 2022 midterm elections is to abandon its decades-long subservience to Wall Street and the military-industrial complex, according to American political analyst Myles Hoenig.

Democratic candidates’ dismal performance in New Jersey and Virginia has sparked panic among Democrats who now view their Senate and House majorities as in serious peril in the 2022 midterm elections, according to The Hill.

In Virginia, Democrats saw former Gov. Terry McAuliffe suffering defeat in a state the polls suggested he had been leading months ago.

In New Jersey, US Democratic New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy barely won re-election against little-known former GOP Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli.

Murphy garnered 50.03% of the vote, compared with 49.22% for Ciattarelli, with 90% of ballots counted. Democrats had expected Murphy to win easily.

Republicans immediately went on the offensive and announced to go after swing-seat Democrats in the House. Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said his party might be able to flip as many as 60 seats.

'When Congress gave Biden nothing, the American people reacted'

“It’s rare for the party in power not to lose big during the midterm elections. Obama called his humiliating losses in his first midterm a shellacking. This recent state-wide election is likely a harbinger for the upcoming elections,” Hoenig commented to Press TV.

“All look at the disaster of Virginia, where Trump-supported Youngkin beat out the former governor for the job. Yet overall, the Democratic Party establishment got what it wanted. It barely kept its governorship in New Jersey, and many of those that ran in New York and Boston and elsewhere were middle of the road (euphemism for corporatist, neo-liberals) candidates. Sure, a few places where racial and ethnic barriers were broken but it won’t be long to see how they easily succumb to the Party’s leadership in moving away from the people’s agenda to that of Wall Street. Just look at how AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) talks left but votes Wall Street, and shills for Leader Pelosi, aka ‘Mama Bear,’” he stated.

“The argument being made by the commentariat is that the Democrats lost touch with America, still fighting Trump and ignoring the ‘real’ issues, the social issues. The last thing they would be doing is real introspection, though. President Biden promised so much and his party has given him bupkis, nada, zero. They cater to the far-right wing of the party and not anyone left of center. They’ll beat down Sanders but kiss the rings of Manchin and Sinema. There is a progressive caucus in both chambers who are as impotent as one can be, and ‘progressive’ in name only,” he said.

“The majority of Americans, not just Democrats, want action on climate change. They want universal health care. They want the Bezos, Zukerbergs, and Musks to pay their fair share. They want their children out of perpetual debt by forgiving student loans as Congress forgave corporate losses due to malfeasance and anti-worker actions. And they want an end to endless wars that are the highest priorities of Wall Street, and therefore, Congress. But the Democrats say no to all of that. It’s no wonder when you pit a corporatist, Clinton acolyte against another corporatist, the one who pretends to be of the people is going to lose. As President Truman said, ‘Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time,’” he added.

“What it all comes down to is that the midterms could likely be a shellacking not seen in decades. It’s a numbers’ game and the Democrats now are barely ahead in the House and Senate. It won’t take more than a few seats to knock them off their perch and even in the best of times, that’s likely to happen. The Republicans are likely to be in charge of Congress and will get what they want. They know how to govern. They are far more united and know how to manipulate public opinion, especially on issues that resonate,” he stated.

“The only way the Democrats can squeak out a win in 2022 is to abandon its decades-long subservience to Wall Street and the military-industrial-Congressional complex. But then, we would be a different country, more like the rest of the world, but our sense of American exceptionalism would not permit that,” he said.
