Indian Wells Masters: Medvedev stuns Dimitrov, reaches quarters

Daniil Medvedev has surprisingly been eliminated from the Indian Wells Masters after Grigor Dimitrov came from behind to beat the Russian 2 sets to 1.

The world no., who was in his best form in the event after claiming his first Open title in the United States a month ago, took the opening set 6-4.

But Dimitrov raised his confidence by delivering a good performance and grabbed the second set with the same result.

The Bulgarian kept his composure in the decider and managed to take the third set 6-3 to wrap up the challenge after two hours and 16 minutes.

Dimitrov will next play against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals after the Pole defeated Russia’s Aslan Karatsev in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev dismantled Frenchman Gaël Monfils two sets to love to book a place in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters.

Monfis was disarmed against Zverev as the German succeeded to beat him 6-1 and 6-2 in 60 minutes. Zverev set up a contest against home favorite Taylor Fritz. 

Finally, Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece battled past Australian Alex de Minaur two sets to one to book a place in the quarterfinals of the event.

The world no. 3 suffered a shocking defeat in the opening set after the Aussie managed to take it in the tie-break.

Despite struggling in the second set, Tsitsipas clawed his way back to earn a win in the tie-break and send the match to a decider, where he kept up the pressure on to register a 6-2 victory in the third set.

The Greek will meet next Nikoloz Basilashvili, who eased past Karen Khachanov of Russia.
