Lebanese parliament gives Mikati cabinet confidence vote

A lengthy parliamentary session was held in Beirut to discuss the cabinet manifesto and give the Mikati cabinet a vote of confidence.
The session began with an address by the prime minister who briefed members of the parliament on the most significant issues which will be dealt with.
The PM stressed that his cabinet will directly begin negotiations with the IMF, and its main objective will include general reforms and a restructuring of the banking sector.
In light of Lebanon’s current dire and economic descent, the majority of Lebanese lawmakers decided to give a confidence vote to a cabinet which considers itself in a state of relief efforts.
Mikati's 24-member cabinet is also expected to offer solutions to shortages of medicine and fuel and to launch a social welfare card as a compensation for the local’s currency’s lost value.
The Mikati cabinet has vowed to prepare for parliamentary elections and hold them on time in May of 2022.
The Mikati cabinet has stressed in its manifesto that the time now is for action and not words. The lawmakers have considered that this cabinet and all future cabinets must work on rebuilding the economy instead of relying on grants and loans.
