Kabul airport bomb attacks

A US official says two bomb explosions at Kabul international airport kills at least 13 US troops and wounds 18 others. Daesh terror group claimed responsibility for the explosions that also left 90 Afghan civilians dead and more than 140 others injured. The attack marked the first US military casualties in Afghanistan since February 2020 and represented the deadliest incident for American troops in the country in a decade. General Frank McKenzie, the head of US Central Command, said the explosions were followed by gunfight. He added that the threat from Daesh persists alongside QUOTE other active threat streams.

Biden pledges revenge

The US president vows to complete Afghanistan evacuation, saying Washington will hunt down Daesh leaders responsible for Kabul airport attacks. Biden added that the intelligence assessed from the attack show that it was carried out by a branch of Daesh terror group in Afghanistan. Biden noted that he would allow additional military force to be deployed in Afghanistan if needed. He stressed there is no evidence at this time that there has been some sort of collusion between the Taliban and Daesh to carry out the attack.
