Since the emergence of the oil industry in the mid-nineteenth century, the energy source has offered a bountiful supply of power.
It has triggered wars and reshaped geopolitics with various countries competing to control the largest-known reserves.
Oil has been used as fuel for transport, to generate electricity that lights homes and run factories and machines. It is used as a raw material for fertilizer and an ingredient to make plastic, cosmetics, and even medicine. In fact, our lives would be very different without it.
