Trump Organization, CFO to be charged Thursday: Report

Former US President Donald Trump (L) and Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer

The Trump Organization and its CFO Allen Weisselberg are set to be charged with tax-related crimes by the Manhattan district attorney’s office on Thursday, a new report by the Wall Street Journal said.

The report comes after the New York Times previously revealed last week that Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer, could face charges in a matter of days as a criminal tax probe against him is heading into the final stages.

A grand jury has been hearing evidence about Weisselberg after obtaining his official tax returns, the New York Times reported.

Weisselberg, a longtime friend of former US President Donald Trump, has served as the CFO of the Trump Organization for about 40 years and many believe that he could be a key source of information for investigators.

Meanwhile, Ronald Fischetti, a New York attorney who represents Donald Trump announced on Monday that “no charges” will be brought against Trump in the initial round of indictments.

“The corporate office will plead not guilty and we will make an immediate motion to dismiss the case against the corporation,” Fischetti said. “Mr. Trump is outraged that they are still going after him by going after his company where he has loyal employees for decades.”

“It looks like they are going to come down with charges against the company and that is completely outrageous,” Fischetti said.

“I’ve been practicing for over 50 years and I’ve never seen a case like this where they would indict or charge an individual or a company on tax evasion for using a company car or company apartment and then tie it to the company that he is working for without any evidence that what he did benefited the company.”

The investigation into the Trump Organization was launched after a congressional testimony by his former personal attorney Michael Cohen, who turned on his former boss since pleading guilty in 2018 to various fraud and campaign finance charges.

Trump, however, has slammed the state and local prosecutors in New York over their bid to launch a criminal probe into his company, describing it as a "continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History."
