Trump’s blog page permanently shut down

Less than one month after its launch, former US President Donald Trump’s blog page has been permanently shut down.

“It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on,” Trump senior adviser Jason Miller said on Wednesday, suggesting the idea that the former president may join another social media platform.

The blog, dubbed "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump," was launched on May 4 as a new communication tool for Trump who was previously banned from the social media platforms, like Twitter and Facebook, in the wake of the Unites States’ controversial presidential election.

Trump, however, rejected the idea in a statement.

"This is meant to be a temporary way of getting my thoughts and ideas out to the public without the Fake News spin, but the website is not a platform," Trump noted.

Facebook suspended Trump's account following the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol, which left at least five people dead, including a Capitol police officer.

Twitter and YouTube also followed suit, citing further risk of violence and incitement by the Republican president.

The unprecedented decision was later referred to the Facebook Oversight Board, an independent body vested with power to reverse Facebook content decisions and set precedent for the company.

While his Facebook ban still hangs in balance, Trump’s suspension on YouTube, according to chief executive Susan Wojcicki, may be lifted when the threat of "real-world violence" decreases.

He is, however, permanently banned from Twitter, which he used regularly for pushing his hate-driven rhetoric.
