Matt Hancock makes inaccurate claim immediately after vowing to be 'straight with' UK

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock

The Tory Health Secretary Matt Hancock appears to have provided false vaccine statistics to the House of Commons, immediately after promising he's always been "straight with the public."

Addressing the MPs on Wednesday, Hancock made the unfortunate exaggeration on Bolton's vaccination rate shortly after denying Dominic Cummings’ accusations that he lied on multiple occasions.

In a braggart claim, he told Labor MP Yasmin Qureshi of Bolton that “the number of vaccinations happening in Bolton right now is phenomenal, tens of thousands every single day, and it is heartening to see the queues of people coming forward.”

Bolton has been badly hit by the Indian COVID variant, while the number of jabs is still nowhere near tens of thousands per day in a town of 200,000.

Meanwhile, governmental sources show that in the past week, the 7-day rolling average was around a total of roughly 3,000 per day, which is considerably far from Health Secretary’s boasting claims.

Backing Cummings’ statements that tens of thousands of people died who did not need to die in the UK COVID pandemic, MP Qureshi had asked in the parliament when “the Prime Minister and others” would be investigated by the police for “corporate manslaughter?”

She criticized the governments’ mishandling of the pandemic and complained that why the UK “did not follow the example of New Zealand where they managed to control it with a minimum number of deaths.”

Beating around the bush, Hancock replied that “what I would say to the people of Bolton is that the people of Bolton have again risen to this challenge.”

This comes after Dominic Cummings, former Chief Adviser to the PM, had accused the health secretary of lying in meetings and in public, as well as interfering in the rollout of the Test and Trace program to reach a "stupid" testing objective.

In one of his most serious allegations, Cummings had also blamed Hancock for lying about testing the patients before going into care homes.

However, Hancock rejected all the explosive allegations and claimed that he has always been “straight with people in public and in private throughout.”
