COVID-19 vaccine hoarding
When it comes to the Covid-19 pandemic, another crisis is brewing, and that is vaccine nationalism or vaccine hoarding. Most G8 nations are guilty of that, including the US, France and Canada. According to the latest, the worlds wealthiest countries are getting vaccinated 25 times faster.
Enough vaccines have been administered to fully vaccinate about 5% of the global population but the distribution has been lopsided. Most vaccines are going to the wealthiest countries. Countries with deals with the manufacturers have priority manufacturing.That means that even if other countries make purchases now, they may have to wait months or even a year for delivery.
The result: High-income countries have 16 percent of the worlds population but currently hold 60 percent of the vaccine doses that have been purchased.
