US distorts reality

The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the United States is inverting the truth by claiming to support human rights while backing those who violate them. Ayatollah Khamenei said Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen for six years and the UN and the US have been silent toward its crimes. However, he said Washington and the United Nations are prompt enough to condemn Yemenis when they launch retaliatory attacks against Riyadh. Iran’s Leader also slammed the US for building military bases in the region under the pretext of fighting terrorism.

EU job losses

A new study shows that some six million jobs were wiped out across the European Union due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The study was carried out by Eurofound, an EU agency dedicated to monitoring living and working conditions in the bloc. According to the report, temporary contractors, females and young workers are the worst hit. The study says while tele-working has helped protect jobs, it has also put people into protracted professional inactivity. The bloc’s employment levels during the pandemic have shrunk more than the 2008 financial crisis, with 17% of workers employed but not working.

Germany Covid-19 cases surge

The number of coronavirus infections in Germany starts to rise again amid warnings about a third wave of the pandemic in the country. The head of Germany's Robert Koch Institute said the country recorded nearly 14,400 new cases on Thursday, the highest daily caseload since early February. Lothar Wieler also stressed the importance of observing health protocols like wearing mask and social distancing. Wieler, however, expressed hope that the vaccination campaign will turn the tide. The comments come after the government started to ease lockdown restrictions in late February. Since the start of the pandemic, Germany has recorded over two and a half million cases and nearly 73,000 deaths.
