Silence on Bahrain's oppression

A group of 15 rights groups urged the administration of US President Joe Biden to address the deterioration of human rights in Bahrain.

The group, which includes the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy and Amnesty International wrote in a letter to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that Bahrain’s rulers were emboldened by President Trump “sending a clear message that his administration would place the pursuit of profit before people”. Back in 2017 Trump said there won't be strain with this administration when it came to US-Bahrain ties.

Under Trump, Manama secured over 8.5 billion dollars in arms deals. Bahrain has engaged in a widespread crackdown on opposition groups and human rights activists since 2011, when the country’s rulers faced nationwide pro democracy protests calling for the removal of the Al-Khalifa regime.
