Probe on Hunter Biden’s tax affairs still active, ongoing in new administration: Sources

Hunter Biden, son of US President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

The federal investigations into the "tax affairs" of US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, is "active and ongoing," two sources familiar with the probe told Fox News.

The indivisulas involved in the probe are "treating it seriously" and the US attorney's office in Delaware "has not heard from the White House," the sources told Fox News.

On December 9, Hunter Biden disclosed that he has come under investigation over his taxes affairs by the US attorney for the District of Delaware.

This came after former US President Donald Trump and his Republican allies in Congress raised questions about potential conflicts of interest from Hunter Biden’s position on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma at the time his father was vice president.

Joe Biden, however, defended his son and reiterated that he is not concerned about accusations leveled against Hunter.

He also vowed not to discuss the issue with anyone he was considering for the attorney general.

Last week, during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Judge Merrick Garland, Joe Biden’s nominee for attorney general, confirmed that the US president has made it clear in the public statements "before and after my nomination" that decisions about prosecutions would be left to the Justice Department.

Biden even asked David Weiss, the US attorney for Delaware, to stay in his position after the new US administration asked all Trump-appointed federal prosecutors to resign.
