Pharmaceutical industry

Historically, Iran has always been important to the world of medicine. Today, Iran’s domestic pharmaceutical industry is one of the most developed in West Asia and North Africa regions.

This industry is driven by science and knowledge. Pharmaceutical companies work closely with academic and research institutions to make products with scientific advancement.

Iran ranks 16th in the world and first in the region in the field of medical research and annual publication. Iran has also managed to enter the realm of complex medicine.

Valued over three billion dollars, the pharmaceutical sector is seen as a strategic industry. The country produces nearly five times more than its domestic demand for medicine.

Meeting the demands has saved the country over 550 million dollars in imports annually. The government and holding companies have invested a considerable amount in the pharmaceutical industry which has also been profitable in the Tehran Stock Exchange.
