US in unstable political, social situation, analyst says

A political analyst says the curfew in Philadelphia truly reflects the unstable political and social situation the United States is experiencing amid 2020 election uncertainty.

"I believe the curfew in Philadelphia is indicative of the unstable political and social situation in the United States. This stems directly from the racist provocation to the police force. But not just the police forces, but it comes all the way down from the White House," Abayomi Azikiwe told Press TV Wednesday.

He further blamed US President Donald Trump for deploying the federal forces as well as the national guard in different US cities against the anti-racist Black Lives Matter movement.

"This is not going to solve the situation in the United States because due to the pandemic and the resultant economic crisis many people are in desperation for food. They have been threatened with infections and foreclosures, job losses, as well as the largest and most pronounced public health crisis in over a century," Azikiwe noted.

"So, this election that's coming up right now is going to be extremely significant because it's going to determine which direction the country is going in," he added.

US cities have been the scene of civil unrest and violence over the past days after the US media reported Trump plans to declare a premature victory on Wednesday.

Trump has previously declined to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, citing voter fraud.

In the city of Kenosha — where Trump had one final campaign rally Monday night — police forces were deployed to City Hall and polling places.

Some urban areas, including Minneapolis are also prepared for chaos, according to reports.

At least 3,671 US troops are on stand-by in 16 states for rapid deployment. They include 1,000 troops in Massachusetts, 300 in Arizona, 300 in Alabama, and an undisclosed Guard troops have been committed to the effort.
