Jai Hindley has won Stage 18 of the Giro d’Italia, while Wilco Kelderman replaced Joao Almeida in the Pink Jersey, with three stages remaining.

Australia’s Hindley, outsprinted Tao Geoghegan Hart to the finish-line after six hours of racing, to claim the victory, as both riders surged into contention for the Pink Jersey.

Pello Bilbao took third place, 46 seconds adrift. But the biggest story of the day was the downfall of overnight race leader Almeida, who was demoted to 5th in the general classification.

His main rival, Wilco Kelderman, is now in the driving seat, holding a 12 second lead over Hindley, and 15 over Geoghegan Hart.

Stage 19 on Friday features a 253 kilometre flat run.
