Palestinians have held a symbolic funeral for the Arab League in protest against the body’s failure to act against the backdrop of a normalization deal between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel.

The protest took place in the Qalqilya area in the occupied West Bank on Friday.

Palestinians were seen symbolically performing a burial prayer behind a coffin covered with the flag of the Arab League before carrying it as part of a funeral procession.

Israeli forces were not idle. They started shooting rubber bullets towards the protesters.

Four Palestinians, including a journalist, were injured.

Others reported feeling asphyxiated as a result of Israeli tear gas.

In a separate incident in the southern West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron), a child was reportedly injured after being shot at by Israeli forces.

An Arab League meeting was held on Wednesday in an apparent reaction to the UAE-Israel deal, which was announced last month. The meeting, however, failed to condemn the US-brokered normalization agreement.

The deal is to be formalized at a signing ceremony at the White House next week.

The agreement has been met with uniform condemnation of all Palestinian factions, who have called it a stab in the back of Palestine and a sheer betrayal of their cause.
