Trump: November election will be ‘most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history’

US President Donald Trump has suggested delaying November's “fraudulent” presidential election, saying increased postal voting could lead to fraud and inaccurate results.

Trump said on Thursday the election should be postponed until people could "properly, securely and safely" vote.

In a series of tweets, Trump said that "universal mail-in voting" would make November's election the "most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history" and a "great embarrassment to the USA".

He said that “mail-in voting” would be susceptible to foreign interference.

"The [Democrats] talk of foreign influence in voting, but they know that Mail-In Voting is an easy way for foreign countries to enter the race," said Trump, who has no authority to delay an election. The US Congress has the power to set the date for voting.

He also said postal voting was "already proving to be a catastrophic disaster" in areas where it was being tried out.

Bad news for Trump means changing the subject: Analyst

Commenting on this, political analyst Myles Hoenig said, “Trump has no authority to delay an election, and the Constitution gives Congress the power to set the date for voting. Lawmakers from both parties said almost immediately there was no likelihood the election would be delayed.”

“Trump didn’t just show his cards regarding delaying the election as there has been a mirror behind his hand for months now. He has been making off-hand suggestions about this for a long time and using the excuse of voter fraud, which hardly exists, in mail-in ballots. It’s fine for him to have done it himself but he can’t trust all others to be as forthright and legal as him,” he added.

“The news lately has been terrible for his re-election and that’s often a reason to change the subject and question the credibility of the election that hasn’t happened yet. The other day news broke that he did not talk to Putin about the alleged, and debunked, story of the Russians paying bounties for American heads in Afghanistan. His only response was that we were doing that too, supporting the Taliban against the Soviet Union. Very true but shows an utter lack of political sense," he said.

"Today of course the report is out that our economy has collapsed by 32%, the largest decline in record keeping history. He knows that the American people by and large will blame him for his utter incompetence in handling the pandemic crisis, but of course in his mind it’s not his fault. Always playing the victim and never takes responsibility for failures. His dad taught him that that is a sign of weakness, according to his niece in her psychological profile of him,” Hoenig stated.

“Whether the election is postponed or not is up to the Congress. There would be plenty of Republicans, even, who would oppose this. That won’t stop them from doing all they can to suppress the vote in strong Democratic areas. One way would be to require the polls to be open, but that’s a state issue and the Republican Party is pretty much unified in this, as is their history. Rigging national elections is unique characteristic of the Republican Party. The Democrats, on the other hand, only rig their own internal elections. Each has their own specialties,” he said.

“Where we go from here is in doubt. What kind of an election we have is in doubt. What Trump would do if defeated is in doubt. When the Democrats propped up Trump in 2016, they had no idea that it would lead to where we are today,” he concluded.
