PM says government doing everything necessary to avoid covid-19 second wave
Boris Johnson has warned of signs pointing to a "second wave" of coronavirus infections in Europe as he tries to deflect criticism about the sudden change of travel advice to Spain.
Coming on the heels of the Spanish Prime Minister's description of the quarantine measures as "unjust", Johnson tried to soften the blow by claiming: "We are always looking at ways in which we can mitigate the impact of the quarantine".
The PM underlined the importance of the quarantine rule for travelers by explaining that: “When people are coming back from aboard, if they’re coming back from a place where I’m afraid there is another outbreak ... They must go into quarantine”.
Furthermore, the PM added: “It’s absolutely vital, therefore, that we make the necessary preparation here in the UK as we are doing”.
The new quarantine rules have had a far-reaching impact on the already embattled travel industry.
To underline the scale of the disaster, the Anglo-German travel firm TUI has cancelled all holidays to the Spanish islands for the next few days, in addition to canceling flights to mainland Spain until August 09.
