Real Madrid have won a 34th La Liga title after edging past Villarreal 2-1 at an empty Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Los Blancos who were in peak form, took the lead as French striker Karim Benzema put the ball home through the legs of Villarreal’s keeper on the half hour mark.

Benzema converted a controversial penalty to double the lead for the hosts in the 77th minute.

The visitors pulled one back after Vicente Iborra headed the ball home with seven minutes remaining, but that was all they could do, and Zinedine Zidane's men bagged their 10th straight victory since the La Liga restart, which means they are champions with a match to spare.
