Thousands march in Paris against pension reform as support for movement stays strong
Thousands of demonstrators, most of them unionists, filled Paris' streets on Wednesday in protest of the French government's planned pensions overhaul, claiming the movement has fallen to President Emmanuel Macron's deaf ears.
Macron, a former investment banker, is pressing ahead with creating a universal pension system from a mishmash of schemes, each with their own benefits. He says it will be fairer. Trade unions say it will mean workers affected could have to work longer to get the same pension.
