Spain rejects talks with Catalan separatists

Spain's government has dismissed talks with Catalan separatists after days of unrest in Barcelona. Catalonia's regional president had called for negotiations with Madrid, following days of often violent protests. The protests were sparked over the jailing of pro-independence Catalan leaders for their role in a failed independence bid in 2017.
