The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday published videos showing submarines, military vessels and ground launchers at military drills "Grom (Thunder) - 2019".

The launches of all missile systems from various parts of the country were successful and planned targets were hit, the ministry said in a statement.

The drills took place at a time of heightened tension between the West and Russia, with President Vladimir Putin warning of a new arms race and accusing the United States of raising the risk of nuclear war by having quit a key arms control treaty and refusing to hold talks about another pact.

On October 11, Putin announced Russia was starting to develop its own medium- and shorter-range missiles.
