Israeli siege deprives Palestinians from continuing studies

The financial crisis in the besieged Gaza strip caused by Israeli siege is getting worse day by day. This blockade has created many problems for university students.

At the beginning of a new semester at Palestinian universities, only a limited number of Gazan students are lucky enough to enroll. Unfortunately, the majority of students in the besieged enclave can't afford the enrolment fees.

The students' financial crisis caused by the Israeli blockade and the political division in the enclave, stand as barriers in front of students' academic life. This has not only prevented students from studying, but also led to a huge reduction in the grants offered by universities. To cope with this condition, most of students are forced to work. However, this affects their academic achievements.

This semester is considered the worst as the applications of about 65% of Gazan students are rejected due to their incapability of affording their tuition.

This crisis has resulted in the universities inability to pay the salaries of professors. Activists are now calling on donor parties to make efforts to save universities.
