2019 best FIFA football awards shortlist announced
FIFA has released the final shortlist for 8 Awards, which will be presented at the 2019 best FIFA football awards’ ceremony, to be held later this month.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk have been named as the final 3-man shortlist for the best FIFA men's player.
The same trio had been nominated for UEFA's player of the year, with Liverpool’s Van Dijk becoming the 1st defender to win the award, which was held at the Champions League draw ceremony last week.
Meanwhile, the best men’s coach award is guaranteed to be won by a Premier League manager, after Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino were chosen as the 3 finalists for their achievements last season.
The nominations will be announced in Milan on the 23rd of September.
