These images are not scenes depicting the aftermath of a natural disaster. Nor are they war time images from Syria or Libya. These are asylum seekers kept in cages at detention facilities at the United States’ southern border.

The images have been released as part of a report by inspectors for the Department of Homeland Security.

In one photo, 88 asylum seekers are being held in a cell which has a maximum capacity of 41.
