US weaponization of foreign aid

The US administration has not shied away from using humanitarian aid for political purposes. Palestinians living in the occupied territories and the besieged Gaza Strip have perhaps been the worst affected.

Washington has cut hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. This included funds towards agencies dealing with education, medical care and infrastructure.

The Palestinian Authority accuses the White House of terminating the aid to try and win concessions from the Palestinians.

The cuts were widely seen as a means to pressure the Palestinian leadership to engage with the administration of US President Donald Trump on its so-called deal of the century.

Palestinians say the US incentive to end the decades-old Middle East conflict takes away their most basic rights.
