Peru's union members protest new labor rules
Thousands of labor union members took to the streets of Lima on Thursday to protest labor law changes implemented by the government of President Martin Vizcarra.
In some locations, police on horseback and armored vehicles followed protesters as other police on the scene fired tear gas.
"Seventy percent are paid dignified salaries. They passed a general rule with very low budget and they are cutting salaries, the right to compensation, vacations, perks; which is something that we, the workers, can not allow," said Wilder Rios, a labor union member.
The strike took place in cities and towns throughout Peru bringing business-as-usual to a halt.
