World Taekwondo Games: Iran's Momenzadeh in Final

Iranian taekwondo athlete Mahla Momenzadeh

Looking over martial arts, 17-year-old Iranian prodigy Mahla Momenzadeh has made history in the Manchester 2019 World Taekwondo Championships, reaching the final of women’s finweight competition.

Momenzadeh advanced to the final of the minus 46 kg category in the first day of the games on Thursday, becoming only the second Iranian woman to win a world championship medal. The 17-year-old paved her way to the final after mounting a spectacular comeback to see off Tan Shu-e-Chin of China 11-9 in the last four, and cruising past opponents from Croatia, Russia, the UK and Kazakhstan in the previous rounds.

The Iranian will meet Sim Jae-young of South Korea in the final showdown on Friday. Iran participated in the 2019 games, which run until May 19th, with six women and eight men.
