UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced a new project aimed at detecting foreign terrorist fighters and serious criminals at the UN General Assembly in New York City on Tuesday.

The new UN-owned software 'goTravel' will be offered free to help governments exchange information on suspected terrorists and track them down when they travel.

"The program will help member states collect, process and share travel data with other competent national and international authorities, with full respect for privacy and other fundamental freedoms," said Guterres announcing the UN Countering Terrorist Travel Program.

Guterres also said the program will help member states to develop necessary legislation and expertise before providing them with the software.
